Calm Minds, Bright Futures: A Sensory Room Support Request

Help me give my students a sensory room with calming lights and bubble tubes that would benefit students with severe disabilities.Many of them struggle with emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and low vision needs that require specific sensory supports.

My Project

At MSSD, we have the privilege of working with some of the most inspiring, resilient students. Each day, our students show us incredible strength as they navigate challenges that most can’t imagine—from communication barriers to sensory processing difficulties, behavioral needs, and visual impairments. What I love most about our students is their determination, their capacity for joy, and the unique ways they express growth. When given the right tools and environment, they thrive.

That’s why I’m requesting support to equip our sensory room with resources tailored to their needs.

Our current budget does not allow for the purchase of these essential items, but the impact they could make is immeasurable:

Bubble Tubes – These calming visual tools help regulate sensory input and offer a soothing experience for students struggling with overstimulation or behavioral escalations. For our students with low vision, the movement and light offer critical visual engagement.

Fiber Optic Lights – These lights provide safe, engaging stimulation that can help students focus, calm anxiety, and process their surroundings in a controlled way.

Each of these tools helps create a space where students feel safe, supported, and capable of returning to the classroom ready to engage. They aren't just calming devices—they’re learning tools that support regulation, focus, and access to education.
