Calm Mind - Calm Body Helps Learning for Everybody!
Help me give my students tools to use for a calming corner in the classroom. A calm corner is a valuable resource available to students to help regulate emotions and support social/emotional learning within the classroom.
The students at my school are collaborative and engaged learners. Since the return to in-person learning since the COVID-19 pandemic our school has witnessed an increase in students experiencing stress and anxiety at school. My goal for this project is to provide readily available tangible tools in the classroom to support students when emotions are heightened. The calming corner tools will allow students a chance to refocus and regulate their minds and bodies within the classroom. Access to these tools will contribute to our students' academic, social and emotional growth.
The calming corner will further support students who need options to help manage stress and anxiety in the classrooms/school.
The weighted animal lap animal and the weighted blanket will aid in alleviating stress by creating a grounding effect for students. The fidgets, thinking putty, stress balls, sequin pillows and bubble timers all provide visual and tactile input which can be beneficial to students seeking to self regulate difficult emotions. The coloring books provide a soothing activity for students who enjoy art. The coloring books can calm emotions. These calming items in the allow students to take a small break and quickly return to learning/classroom tasks with a regulated mind and body which contributes to student learning.
