My Project
I am a school social worker on the West Side of Chicago. I provide mental health support for my students, alongside a team of other wonderful professionals. We are a small school, but our students have high needs. My students mean the world to me and will greatly benefit from having a calm down room equipped with supplies to support them in using coping and regulation skills.
I want to give my students every opportunity possible to develop emotional regulation skills that will aid their social-emotional growth and maximize their opportunities for success in life.
The pandemic has had a detrimental impact on youth mental health. Student mental health needs are much higher than in years past. I find that my students often just need a quiet, safe space to regulate their emotions before returning back to class. This room will be the perfect space for students to learn coping skills while feeling safe and comfortable.
