My Students
As a teacher in a special education inclusion room in a low-income school district, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I am looking to provide them with a fun, interactive, and meaningful learning environment.
My students have a multitude of needs including physical, cognitive, medical, fine motor, sensory, and communication.
They love learning through a multitude of different means such as sensory activities. They learn best though creative and sensory activities.
My Project
My students use a calm down area on a daily basis to help them continue learning throughout the day. Students in my classroom could benefit from a desk in the calm down area so that they can draw and do puzzles why they are deescalating. I have a variety of students in my classroom that have a variety of needs. They will benefit from having fidgets that they can use a variety of their senses. I would like to give them emotion toys so that they can identify their emotions when they are upset.
When students are escalated, they like to find different ways to help them calm down.
Students who use a calm down area are able to calm down faster than with their peers. Helping student to calm down and be able to rejoin the group is great so that they can continue learning. This will also help students be able to relax their frustration in a productive way.
