My Project
In the process of creating a quiet sensory/ calm down space for my K-6 students to come in for a break when they are feeling overstimulated or frustrated.
This space will give students the opportunity to safely take a break in an environment that is quiet and seperated from peers so as not to disturb others learning.
Our school has a large population of students with sensory needs. This can make it difficult for some students to become easily frustrated or fatigued in the general education classroom. With up to 24 students per teacher it can be difficult to have a quiet space for students to take a break, which leads to increased behaviors and often disciplinary actions.
By providing in a calm break space in a resource classroom I am able to support both students and teachers regulate emotions and get back to learning!
