This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a Calm-down corner.
This quiet place will allow my students to be aware of their own emotions.
Students learn how to identify their emotions so they can better regulate them. Calm-down corners provide a safe space for kids to process these emotions in a vulnerable state without distraction or judgment. This area will be extremely beneficial for students that just need to get their feelings out. The mindfulness books and activities help them practice healthy coping strategies. These books will empower my students to regulate their emotions and manage their stress in helpful ways.
A calming corner (or peace corner, reset zone, calming space, calm-down corner, etc.) is a safe, designated spot in the classroom where students can go and sit in this bean bag chair to regroup when they are experiencing strong emotions or simply need a break. Reset spaces provide kids an opportunity to be more aware of how they feel and to practice managing their emotions in healthy ways.
