Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students are excited to go to school for the first time. For the most part, they live in poverty and receive free lunch. The students are very diverse learners who are eager to learn! My school is in an urban environment. Our school district has been experiencing financial difficulties for many years. That being said, we have great students, dedicated teachers, and two administrators who work together to make our school a safe environment for everyone!

My Project

This coming school year, my school district is focusing on mindfulness and teaching students how to properly calm down. Our administrators recommend that we make a calm down corner in our classroom to help the students.

A calm-down corner helps students create a positive mindset.

Students will be able to learn to come to this corner of our classroom when they appear to be frustrated, upset or just need a moment to themselves. The shelves will be hung on the wall using the command strips. The books will go on the shelves for the students to be able to go to our corner and grab a book of the shelf and read. The rug will be put in the corner for the corner reading nook to be put on. The students will be able to sit on the reading nook and relax and calm down. The poster will be hung on the wall as well, as a reminder to laugh and smile and live life in a positive way. After they are finished growing their positive mindset they will be able to join back in the classroom when they are ready.
