My Project
Kindergarten students often come into school with big feelings that they may not know how to identify or manage. In response to this, I prioritize social-emotional learning in my classroom, specifically emotional regulation. My Kindergarten students participate in social-emotional lessons weekly. In addition, my students have access to a calm down corner, or a quiet space in the classroom where they can go when they are experiencing big emotions and need a moment to regulate themselves.
The fidgets and feelings books will be placed in our classroom’s calm down corner, giving students the resources they need to independently regulate their emotions.
Additionally, the sensory toys and headphones are resources that will be given to my students with autism to ensure that their sensory needs are met, so they can be successful within the general education classroom.
I have seen the ways in which social-emotional learning in combination with a calm down corner can contribute to creating a calm and positive learning environment. I hope that these additional calm down corner resources will benefit my students even more!
