My Project
As the art teacher, I teach at two different Title 1 schools and see every kid in both schools. My K-6th grade students come to class with a lot of feelings. Sometimes they don't have the strategies to cope with these feelings and act out as a result.
Calm down corners provide safe spaces for students to self regulate.
These corners are not only safe spaces but they are also in the classroom! This means that students get to stay in the classroom to calm down instead of having to pull students out of the learning space when they become dysregulated.
These supplies will provide a variety of sensory tools and strategies to help students at both schools to calm down on their own. The types of materials and the different ways kids can interact with them provide supplies for students with multiple sensory needs. Just like kids, a single sensory tool is not one size fits all. Thanks for helping me provide support for all the students in my schools!
