This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Pupil Services and Attendance counselor, it is my responsibility to educate my students on how to manage their emotions. One method of emotional regulation that is very effective for children is to have a "calm corner" set up for them. A calm corner is a safe space for students to go to when they feel their emotions are too strong for them to control. Students can read a book, hug a plushie, play with a fidget toy, or simply sit and focus on their breathing until they feel they are ready to rejoin their classmates.

As we all know, teaching children emotional regulation skills is an essential life lesson that will help them grow up to be mature, reliable, successful adults.

I am requesting a rug, plushies, and calm corner signs for my students to interact with in the calm corner. I believe that these materials are crucial in creating an effective and tranquil environment for my students to self-soothe in.
