This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are from a low-income neighborhood and have experienced adversity, upon which we want to support their mental health and overall being. They require social-emotional support to learn how to manage their emotions and cope with future challenges. We love that even though our students face these adversities, they're resilient and still come to school daily to learn.
We plan to use the requested materials to teach lessons on emotional regulation and demonstrate with a calming corner so that they can practice coping techniques.
The decorative pieces, such as the meditation pillow, palm tree, room divider, sequence pillows, etc., will help create an inviting and soothing space. All the other items, such as fidget spinners, legos, stress balls, squishies, etc., will help our students de-escalate when feeling overstimulated. They also help as a grounding tool for them to help recognize and regulate their emotions in a healthy way. The other items, such as the storage organizers and storage bins will be utilized to store all the items listed above.
