This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in an urban, low-income neighborhood. Few students have families with an academic background, and most will be first generation college students.
Many of my students have only been in the country for two years or less.
They come from several different countries and need a way to see how their perceived differences are not reality. Many may have experienced traumatic events and need help in trying to express their feelings while gaining a sense of community and togetherness.
My Project
These resources will provide an area in my classroom where students can work to be creative, calm down, and/or feel at home. Students will be able to select from several snacks, nature sounds, and colored lights to help them focus in an area of the classroom without all the hustle and bustle of the classroom.
Tucked in a corner of the room will be a table set up with the coloring poster and markers to allow students to take a few minutes to reset themselves mentally or creatively before they come back to the work of the classroom.
