My Project
Sometimes the regular classroom setting can become overstimulating, especially sitting in fluorescent lighting all day! The plan with these tools is to allow students a space to go and recollect themselves and work on self-regulation. The time to take a break rug provides extra comfort for the students to work on these skills.
Research has shown that covering fluorescent lighting in classrooms can have positive effects on students.
One of the primary struggles educators face is keeping students engaged and focused on what’s happening in front of the whiteboard or chalkboard. Harsh fluorescent or LED lighting can make it harder for students to look at the front and pay attention, allowing their minds to wander to other things. Covering the lights softens this fluorescent glow and reduces eye strain as well.
Overall providing a designated space for students to calm down, and creating a space that preemptively reduces overstimulation is key to keeping a calm and well-managed classroom for both the teacher and the students.
