Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach kindergarten and first grade special education at a Title 1 school. Many of my students have autism and other communication and developmental delays. Throughout our time together, my students experience 'big' emotions. Access to a calm corner and explicit teaching of strategies help to make them feel better, but my calm corner at the moment isn't exactly of interest to them. It doesn't feel comfortable. Which is why I hope to update my classroom calm corner!
I hope for my calm corner to be a place where students can go when they're feeling upset, frustrated, or sad.
The tent canopy, comfortable rug, and cozy floor chair will provide sensory relief from the going-ons of the classroom. Little fidgets and breathing mazes will help students to regulate their nervous systems so they can join our group when they're ready. And the books will serve as a teaching moment when I'm introducing the calm corner in the beginning of the school year.
