it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my classroom, I prioritize my students' well-being and recognize the importance of supporting their emotional development. Teaching young children about their emotions requires being intentional about creating a safe, supportive space where they can learn to manage those feelings.
The goal of this project is to establish a calm corner—a purposeful and effective space where students can go when they need time to reflect, reset, and practice emotional regulation.
This calming area will serve as a peaceful retreat where students can process their feelings and build strategies to cope with big emotions.
For many of my students, this is their very first school experience, and adjusting to a structured classroom environment can be overwhelming. A calm corner will not only support their emotional needs but also reinforce the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons we practice together. It’s a space where students can feel safe, understood, and empowered to manage their emotions in healthy, constructive ways.
