Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing preschoolers with autism, speech and language impairments, and multiple orthopedic and developmental disabilities. Every day, they come to school ready to learn and connect, despite the unique challenges they face.
Many of my students are just beginning to learn how to express their feelings, build relationships, and regulate their emotions.
Because of their individual needs, traditional approaches don’t always work. That’s why I’m requesting developmentally appropriate social-emotional learning (SEL) tools to create a calm, inclusive, and engaging environment where they can thrive.
These materials will include:
Visual emotion cards and communication boards to help students express how they feel
Sensory tools like fidget items, textured pillows, and calming bottles to support self-regulation
Social stories and interactive books to model friendship, problem-solving, and coping skills
Adapted SEL games and puppets for teaching turn-taking, empathy, and emotional awareness
These resources will be used during daily routines, circle time, and small group instruction. They will also be integrated into behavior support plans and speech-language activities in collaboration with our therapists.
