Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These supplies will be utilized to create a calm area for all students who need them. Students already frequent my space and ask for items to draw with or fidget with to help them calm down.
We serve a population of students with a high number of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and need extra support to learn healthy ways to process emotions.
A welcoming space is vital for social and emotional support. Our school has a majority of students of color, with a large population of low-income families and newcomers to the country.
We will be using the supplies to create activities for students to calm down and work through their emotions in healthy ways. Students will be encouraged to journal, read, draw, and practice cool-down techniques with the snacks as positive incentives for utilizing these healthy practices.
