My Students
Early childhood learning is unique. Research shows that students retain information best when they are learning it through hands-on activities and discovery, instead of just listening to a teacher talk.
The students in my classes are diverse in both cultures and needs.
Some have never seen a classroom before and some have attended preschool for years and already know the basic skills needed to feel successful in kindergarten.
I love to see how the children learn, grow, and develop in different ways and on different levels. I live for the moments when those children discover that they can do something that was previously hard for them, or find something new that interests them and they want to learn more about!
Providing opportunities for the students in my class to learn and try developing their new skills is a hope of mine from year to year.
My Project
Students of all ages, including kindergarten, struggle to focus and regulate their own emotions and behaviors. Each child enters the classroom with their own unique set of emotional struggles.
A calm and inviting classroom sets the tone for learning.
By providing the proper lighting and setting in the classroom, children are prepared to learn from the moment they walk in the door each day. A calm-down corner equipped with comfortable items and proper sensory materials provides a place for children to manage strong emotions that may arise during the class time.
My goal is to help create individualized opportunities for each child to focus on their own learning, while simultaneously providing the conditions that will help address any emotional needs within our own classroom.
