Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an art teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district where students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I want things to remain simple in my classroom and I want to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My high school students are very creative in the arts (art and music).
They love to get a chance to express themselves. We are in need of art materials so they can be successful and as creative as possible in class and after-school art club. Students love to receive positive attention and praise from their mentors and peers. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, my goal is to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I highlight their strengths and try to make every student feel important. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our students to put their best selves forward.
My Project
We are having a health fair- where our health academy and electives come together to promote a healthy school community. Promoting healthy habits, we are coming up with ideas to promote social and emotional health. Each year I team up with the diversity club and art club. The materials I am asking for will be for one of our SEL activity we wanted to also incorporate PRIDE , as the health fair is this June which is officially PRIDE MONTH- We will be making bracelets in honor of Pride, bringing our school community together with a calming activity (being COVID safe with individual baggies of supplies for each child.)
