This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of our students want to have a positive and successful school day each day of the year. They show up each day wanting to do their best, searching for their passion, and seeking love. Our collective student population has experienced a high amount of trauma and don't always have a nurturing home or community to help them grow, which in turn, can impact how they show up to school. We see lots of big emotions in various ways: tears, withdrawing from social interaction, anger with the world. Our goal is to meet each student where they are at. We do this by creating a calm, welcoming space complete with tools (fidgets, games, books) to help them learn and practice emotion regulation. Often times, these moments are the connecting points of a new friendship, a builder of empathy skill, and a realization that it's okay to not be okay, but community will always be there for you. Thank you for helping us create and stock this special space so our kids can focus on feeling good and their learning.
