My Project
My students live in a care and treatment facility. They come from all kinds of backgrounds and 90% of them come from trauma, abuse, and neglect. They have not experienced structure, safety, trust, and security. I try to make my classroom a place where they can feel safe and supported so they can focus on learning and improving themselves. A lot of times they feel more secure if they can wrap a blanket around them or ball up in a cozy chair. That doesn't mean they aren't learning, they listen to every word and do their classwork. They are a unique bunch of learners and I love to see what they blossom into when they feel safe.
