Calling All Word Detectives!

My students need 6 Word Building resources, including a Word Study Sorting Chart, a High Frequency Word Wall and 3 Words Their Way curriculum books.

This project is fully funded

All We Need Are Words (sung to All We Need Is Love!)- I teach a multiage 1st/2nd grade class in a very high poverty area. The students do not have a good vocabulary because they do not have the chance to go places or even read about places. A large number of my students do not have books in their homes. They have a very hard time writing and reading words that they have not seen before or even relating to words that they know.

My students love books. Their excitement about books makes them want to write about what they have read and even write their own stories. The books and manipulatives that I would like to have would help the students begin to understand the concept of words, how they are formed, and how to make new words from words that they already know.

The books that I would like to use with my students are by Kathy Ganske. They are researched based and offer an interesting and exciting way to spell words. The research shows that Ganske's approach makes better readers, writers,and spellers. The wonderful thing about Ganske's approach is that it is a truly differentiated approach, too. The manipulatives that I would like to have are fun ways to reinforce Ganske's approach to spelling. Most of the students in our school learn better by manipulating materials and these would be perfect for them.

The students in my class will not only become better readers, writers ,and spellers, but will become more confident in the way they learn. Your help will make a difference in the lives of my students because they will know that someone cares about them and wants them to learn as much as they can.
