I am a special educator in an urban area. I teach first, second, and third grade. I decided to teach in an urban area because I believe in closing the achievement gap and in creating an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, and motivated to learn. Here is how you can help me achieve that.
There are forty-five minutes at the end of everyday that are supposed to be for science. The problem is our school lacks the resources to teach science. Our school doesn’t have enough text books for everyone, and the textbooks we do have are out of date. We also lack the basic materials needed to complete experiments in school. I want my scholars to learn and become excited about science just the way I was when I was in school.
With these science materials my scholars will be able to take a hands-on approach to learning science. They will observe the life cycle of a butterfly and bacteria. They will be able to investigate concepts such as matter, force, and motion. Just because our school doesn’t have materials doesn’t mean we don’t want to explore the world of science.
Now is the time! Please help me inspire my students to reach for the stars, literally. Assist me in bringing to life the content that we read in our textbooks. Allow me to expose my students to content that is considered secondary to the reading and math in school. Let me provide my scholars with the opportunity to grow and achieve everyday in everyway!
