My Project
As an art teacher, it’s vital for us to stay informed of best practices and integrate technology into our classrooms. Technology helps foster our students’ 21st-century learning skills and it can be a fun and exciting addition to the art room. My students are learning about different collagists and how to create different collages. The traditional way of making a collage is by cutting and pasting different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing. My students are now learning how to create a digital collage as we integrate technology in the art room. Using the computer to create a digital collage from photos or images offers a different option that has lots of ‘WOW’ factor to capture students’ interest while building technology as well as creative arts skills. Generating a collage using technology is easy and fun, enhances design and layout skills, encourages creative expression, and will actively engage the students and bring out their artist skills. When students create this digital collage, they need a medium to print it. This is why I need a printer and an appropriate ink supply (black and colored). My students are in a Title I school and come from diverse backgrounds living in Brooklyn with low socio-economic status and hardships all around, so they will benefit greatly from having a printer in the classroom. Most of the students cannot afford to print their finished art creations outside of school so having a printer in the classroom will help to give them the opportunity to print and showcase their artwork.
