This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school every day with a smile on their faces and genuine excitement for the day ahead. However, many come hungry; our entire student body receives free breakfast and lunch. Many come tired; a home or even a bed of their own is a luxury several students don't have. Others come knowing little or no English but communicate beautifully through their smiles and kind hearts.

The families of my students have entrusted me with the education and safety of their children, and I take this honor extremely seriously.

Daily I strive to instill a love of learning in my students and believe the best way to do so is to provide lessons and activities that allow them to become active learners.

My Project

Our school district has adopted a new kindergarten curriculum this year and I am beyond thrilled that the students have time each day to express themselves creatively. This may be done through building with blocks, sculpting with clay, using recycled materials to build whatever their imaginations desire, and painting. I have plenty of blocks, clay and recyclables but what I am sorely lacking in is paint, paper and brushes.

Do you remember how exciting it is to stand, wearing a smock, in front of an easel with a blank paper in front of you?

What about the smell of tempera paint and the chubby paint brushes used in elementary school? I want my students to experience this and have the opportunity to dip their brushes into little jars of fresh paint and lose themselves in the creative process.

I can't wait to display these mini masterpieces in our classroom and see the pride on the faces of my young artists!
