My Students
Kindergarten is the time to create, investigate and make! My students are wildly imaginative, brilliantly creative and full of giggles! They come from one of the toughest neighborhoods in the city of Chicago but it certainly doesn't stop them from being excited about school, every day! It's one of the happiest years in early childhood because they are at the age of exploring and are just stepping into the big world of education. They see the world through these fabulously fun glasses of endless possibilities that spreads into our hearts as teachers and adults. It's a positive and constant reminder of how fun it was to be five!
My students are a terrific bunch of kids full of excitement and who have an epic hunger for learning!
They are always asking new questions and are curious about anything new they discover. My students are this incredible bunch of diverse learners. We have students of all abilities and I am always so proud and impressed by the level of love and compassion my students share for one another. We are a true community of little learners who are always eager to try something new and help each other learn and grow!
My Project
In kindergarten we start the process of becoming writers. It is very important that they start off on the right foot and have all the materials they need to get started. We need crayons and colored pencils to help bring our writing to life. When students first start off in the writing process they begin with drawing and illustrating what they want to say. They then move into labeling their pictures, followed by forming sentences.
Having the right materials to begin the writing process helps to spark their creativity and add those magical details to their pictures.
By having a variety of colors in crayons and colored pencils it helps students to visualize the possibilities for their characters and setting in their stories. Writing and drawing is the best way to get their wonderful, funny, and exciting stories down into meaningful and important learning. The joy on their faces when they see their published work of writing is fantastic! By having these materials it would allow us to dig deeper into small group learning by creating words with the magnetic letters on the magnetic boards to help keep them engaged and excited about writing. When we meet for literacy small groups, we practice our word making skills and these magnets would allow us to have more hands on experiences and make meaningful connections to sounds and helps to build our word knowledge. Our goal is to create lifelong writers who enjoy the process of writing as they continue their education on towards college.
