Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
To instill a lifelong appreciation for hand crafts and arts in my students I want to engage them in Calligraphy. This is an art form that interest most teenagers due to the creative nature and outcomes when practiced.
Most of my students are Free and reduced lunch status. They do not have a chance to see or practice calligraphy at home. At school we must focus on the basic of all basic in art class. I want to introduce them to Calligraphy in hops they will take a great interest in it and in some way it will enhance their lives. Either by becoming a life long practice or an experience that will allow them to appreciate hand lettering when they see it.
To be able to complete this project (for several classes and repeat it for several semesters) I will need to acquire calligraphy pens, books, examples, and special inks. The students I have taught in the past have always shown an interest in Old English Letters when we do a projects using Initials. I have used copies of the alphabet and they have tried (in pencil) to form the letters. This interest proves to me if we had the right materials my students lives would be enriched by learning and practicing calligraphy styles and forms.
