My Students

We are an energetic and fun-loving group of students who dream big and always want to achieve more. In the classroom, we are always looking for more ways to collaborate, create, think critically, and share our learning. School provides us with nutrition, safety, and a drive for learning. This year we are lucky enough to be in a combination class consisting of fourth and fifth graders!

We are diverse learners who enjoy being collaborative, innovative, and imaginative!

We are eager to learn! We enjoy choices because we understand that we are all different types of learners. Our teacher, Ms. Nakashima, emphasizes that we all are unique but we still need to collaborate and cooperate; giving a voice to all of the students in our classroom including the shyest student and our English learners. We are a team in our room!

My Project

Every year, our students get to integrate their love of reading with the rich history of California and the United States of America. Our students dive deeper into the text to learn more about the state's history. Unfortunately, as they read and use our core literature books more and more, our books fall apart and need to be replaced. We are hoping to replace our fourth grade core literature books, fifth grade core literature books, and report books to keep our students excited about opening them!

Instilling a love of reading and learning is vital to a student's success.

Reading stories is one of the most fundamental ways of making meaning and pervades all aspects of learning. We use Wonder, Riddle of Penncroft Farm and In The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson to promote discussion and understanding in our essential fourth and fifth grade grade social studies topics. The district provides funding for textbooks, but does not have enough for supplemental novels. Reading these historical fiction books about the topic we are studying is yet another way to enhance our learning. Moreover, we need new research books to help us with our informational writing unit!
