My Students
This class of Special Education Access and Transition students go out into the community every day to get on-the-job training and earn real money at many different community-partner job sites. Our students also explore recreational and artistic activities, such as swimming and pottery or drama class, and further enhance their community-learning experience by taking classes at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University.
Our young adult students are well aware of their role in our society, and want to increase it!
These young men and women strive to be contributing members every day. Whether holding down a part time job or volunteer position, participating in continuing education classes or pursuing artistic inclinations, our students learn that it takes hard work and dedication to maintain a society that we all want to live in. They also learn to feel proud of their contributions, and thereby gain not only insight and understanding of the larger world we all share, but a sense of pride and purpose as they increase their independence operating within it.
My Project
Students and staff from the WHS Access Program will visit several interesting, fun and historically significant sites on this overnight field trip. For many of our students, this is the first time they will spend a night away from their families, and we teachers intend to make the most of that experience for them.
One stop on this long-established field trip that always enchants is Harley Goat Farm, where students will learn about animal husbandry, milking goats, making cheese, and perhaps even hold a baby goat or two.
From there, students get back on the bus and proceed to San Pedro County Park, where will eat our bagged lunches, play field games, and go hiking. Finally, students cook dinner and spend the night at Point Montara Light House and Youth Hostel, where we will learn about California maritime history.
