California History is Exciting

Help me give my students a variety of historical resources. A mix of fiction and non-fiction literature reviewing several historical events, but focused on the CA Gold Rush, will help my students further understand how these events happened

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students enjoy learning about history but they seldom make personal connections to things that happened in the past. Many of the books I've requested here will give them a new perspective on these events, especially the California Gold Rush, but with some additional titles mixed in to broaden their knowledge. This group is eager to find out new information and they enjoy doing research to learn things on their own. I like the concept of the books that create a realistic fictional narrative to help students imagine themselves in the time of the events. I believe they will love this book series and use it to enrich their comprehension of historical events.

I've also included some paper and TPT gift cards so students can use additional resources and bright paper to demonstrate their new learning by creating various products such as brochures and flyers to 'teach' others about California history.

I always feel better when I can provide my students with safe research materials instead of relying on internet searches that may direct them to information that is not age-appropriate. And we all are so excited when they get to create and share with classmates items that have an element of fun (thus brightly colored paper).
