This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a self-contained special education class, receiving services for a variety of disabilities, including speech and language issues, autism, and ADHD. As if having a disability is hard enough, many of them are also ELLs and struggle learning and retaining the necessary English language skills required to be successful in school. Many also come from low income families and endure all the socioeconomic hardships associated with poverty. As a result of COVID, many of these difficulties have increased tremendously. Despite all these challenges, they are super sweet, wonderful, caring kiddos with big dreams who want to learn.
My Project
I'm requesting funds to help my students learn about the calendar and the days of the week. I planned on using a Google Slide to teach them this information, but I have found it too difficult to use. The placement of things change and I seem to be spending all my time fixing it when I should teach them. A non-digital calendar would be much easier. I plan on using this calendar when we will meet in person, which will hopefully be very soon. We all miss our classroom very much.
