This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students are learning English for the first time in my class. They need multiple exposures and adequate review of skills in order to acquire the language. My students are hardworking and it is my job to get them all the resources possible to facilitate their learning.

My students come from the humblest of backgrounds.

They live in a rough neighborhood bordered with gangs, industrial factories and train tracks. They all live far below the line of poverty. Most students eat the bulk of their daily meals at school. They live with the bare minimal and yet come to school with a smile and eager to learn. Many are in foster care, while others live with relatives or extended families.

My Project

I am requesting Calendar Math Journals to incorporate math into everyday life with the use of the calendar. This will bring math relevancy to my class. In addition, I am also requesting Daily Comprehension Common Core Practice Journals. My students struggle with reading comprehension and I feel that having these journals to start our day with an exercise will help them understand better what they read. I am also requesting Writing Prompts Journals because I want my students to get daily practice in writing. Writing is a skill that students need to practice in a non-threatening way. I believe that a journal is a great vehicle for this. My students are also in need of Correct the Sentence! Daily Journals; this will help them with grammar. Grammar is very important for students that are learning English as their second language and in order for them to master the necessary grade level skills they need to practice on a daily basis.

I think that incorporating daily review with the use of journals for grammar, reading comprehension, calendar math concepts, and writing is the essential in every classroom.

Students need these resources to practice and master grade level skills. My students will come in with a deficit and I want to reduce it significantly. I believe that these resources will help my students.
