My Students
The background of my student is inner-city families. Students often come to class without supplies and we have to supply them or go without them.
The proudest thing about my students is how much they help each other.
I have never seen this happen so much before. The students are always moving around the room aiding each other. Our student population struggles with math and I can only be in one place at once so having so many helpers is extremely useful. Not only does this benefit the struggling students but I feel it benefits the students who teach as well. When a student has to break something down and explain it to another student their understanding of the topic increases as well.
My Project
Some of our students come from low-income families and they do not always bring the supplies needed to class. In particular, many students do not bring calculators. I can go and buy a class set of $1 calculators from Target but these calculators do not have the trigonometric functions we need. Trigonometry is a big part of Geometry and being able to use all those functions are important. On top of that, there are many standardized tests that students have to take throughout the school year and we often run thin. A student not having a calculator is a big disadvantage.
