My students need 3 graphing calculators for junior level Algebra. They will use them daily and be familiar with them before the ACT. They will be made available as rentals.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Give every student the same advantage on the ACT! My students need graphing calculators to take advantage of the technology available to solve complex math problems. These calculators allow them to discover their own learning and see the bigger picture in math.
I teach high school juniors who take the ACT for college in the spring.
Our school has about 3400 students. 64% of our students are low income. These calculators would be made available as part of a rental program where the student could use the calculator, free of charge, for the year, and would return it at the end of the year.
My Project
We use graphing calculators everyday in class. The sooner my students learn the functionality and capabilities of the calculator, the more comfortable they will be and the better they will do on the ACT to help them get into college. The majority of my students have graphing calculators, but a few still do not have their own resources to purchase one. We use these calculators to perform matrix calculations, solve quadratics and other polynomial functions. I do have a calculators for students without calculators to use during class, but they are not available to take home or for use on the ACT.
Making these graphing calculators available to at least a few more students can make a big difference in their chances for success in this class and on the ACT which will help determine what college they can get in to.
Knowing this technology is and important skill needed for to prepare them for success in the 21st century.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
