This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are wonderful because they are real, appreciative, and balance school priorities successfully with work, caring for family, extracurriculars, all while planning for their future. I teach at a Title I school where many of our students do not have the financial benefits to easily access educational resources.
These high quality TI scientific calculators enable students to learn together, and with me, all on the same device.
I have found that calculator inconsistency in the classroom leads to confusion, lost time, and ultimately unnecessary frustration for otherwise capable students.
Success in high school mathematics is primarily about understanding and applying concepts. Certainly this first level understanding can be, and should be, accomplished through paper and pencil learning. In order to advance past this foundational level, students must have consistent access to the high quality scientific calculators I am requesting.
