My students need 30 calculators to help with chemistry calculations.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Tylkowski's classroom raised $397
This project is fully funded
I teach in a great classroom with some amazing students. The area I teach in is a high poverty area and even though my students love to learn sometimes it is difficult for them. Many of my students are on free or reduced lunch and have difficulties bringing school supplies to class. I teach High School Chemistry and Chemistry of Nutrition.
My students continue to not bring calculators to class. I thought they were being lazy at first but have since realized they honestly do not have calculators. In chemistry we incorporate a lot of math and some students have tried to take tests without calculators. These students do not do well on these tests and I do not have enough calculators to give everyone.
I am asking for 30 calculators to use as a class set. I will number them and let students use them when they take quizzes or tests and when they do worksheets in class.
By removing this obstacle students can start getting into the heart of chemistry. Math is not many of these students strong point and they spend way too much time working things out by hand. By having these tools at our disposal we can focus on what the numbers mean and how we can make sense of the world around us. This class set will be used for around 150 students this year and for many years to come.
