This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students in 7th grade math need calculators to be successful. When students have the same calculators, group work and teacher instruction are easier. We ask the students to bring in their own calculators, but most often they do not. In my classroom, I have created stations that include 3 desks. Each station is equipped with all the materials they need to be successful: pencils, a binder per student, and 3 calculators, as well as, wipe boards and markers. Most often students do not bring in their own materials. Therefore I simply supply it in the classroom for them. Finally, as a district many different models of calculators have been purchased through the years and we are given a class set. The problem is that with 80 students using them daily they break or get lost.
Please consider purchasing calculators for my classroom and possible future mathematicians.
