Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher and the Math Teacher Leader in a Spanish dual language school (students learn in both English and Spanish).
This year our school adopted a new mathematics curriculum. We were given enough money to purchase the program's most basic components. This did not include money for calculators. Calculators are an integral part of the program.
My students need calculators! Not only does the mathematics curriculum require the use of calculators, but studies suggest that teaching children to use calculators properly can promote better understanding and mastery of arithmetic (basic facts), develop good number sense and improve problem solving skills. Calculators also help engage students and thus can improve attitudes towards mathematics.
Your assistance will provide my students with an essential tool that will help improve teaching and learning in the mathematics class.
