My Students

Technology is impacting our society more and more each day. It is critical that all students have access to technology in order to become productive in today's society. Calculators are a small, but crucial tool to help in advancing student knowledge through technology.

Respectful, responsible, hard-working, generous, grateful, caring, these are just a few of the many adjectives that describe the students at our school.

Many of our students have very little luxuries in their personal lives. School is a safe place where our students can learn and grow together as a community. Our students are very responsible when given materials, and are grateful to have the necessary items to complete daily tasks. Unless one was to spend time with these students, they could not fully understand how deserving these kids are of something so simple as a calculator.

My Project

My students need scientific calculators and a heavy duty pencil sharpener to complete math tasks efficiently. A more advanced calculator from the current calculators we are using would help our students tremendously. Each year, our students take a high stakes standardized test that determines if they will be promoted to the next grade level. I believe that with upgraded calculators, our students will be able to perform better on these tests. The calculators will also help the students to build more self-confidence. I know that many of the students are hesitant to answer questions in Math because their calculators cannot complete a simple function such as adding fractions. Once the students are taught how to perform all of the functions on the calculators, the calculators would save time, allow them to perform more advanced functions, help them with tests, and increase their confidence levels.

One small item can make such a huge difference in the classroom.

Our students deserve the opportunity to have access to the technology and be able to learn skills that they are going to be utilizing for the rest of their lives. My students and I truly appreciate your consideration of this project; it would make such a difference in our math classroom.
