Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We need to climb our way to the top with strong math skills! The 2009-2010 school year, I'll be teaching 6-8 math, and this will be the first time our school is going to be a full middle school! We are a dual-language program, and I teach the English component. We want our kids to be bilingual and bi-literate, as we teach content areas in both languages!

Our school was lucky enough to be re-opened this year in an AMAZING new building! We have new furniture and structure, but NOT SUPPLIES! As usual, in our inner-city budget, funds are tight! As a math educator, I think it is extremely important for students to use graphing calculators and other technology in their learning, but am unable to do so without these materials!

With these graphing calculators, students can see the reality of mathematical technology, as well as better visualize and understand the "science" behind the math! I want my students to see that math is useful, and be able to attach their use of these to real-life projects and content areas such as science fair! By using these calculators for projects and challenging assignments, students can reach the top by practicing and most importantly applying new skills!

Your help will give my students the opportunity to see math in a new light, and further their understanding of math and the use of graphing calculators to complete intense projects and assignments to challenge these young minds!
