Calculating Our Future

My students need financial calculators for our new Financial Mathematics course.

Financial mathematics knowledge is crucial in creating a successful financial future. I teach mathematics at a small charter high school in Arizona. Our students are often the first in their family to graduate from high school. Many students come to us as a "last resort' and find that they are capable of so much more than they had ever imagined.

Why? It is the daily question I receive as a math teacher. Why do I need to learn this? I make every attempt to make lessons "real" to students. Nothing is more "real" than money! Students' ears always perk up when we discuss money or financial situations, because money is a struggle for most of their families every day.

My students need financial calculators for our new Financial Mathematics course. Financial math is best learned through real-life scenarios. I will provide students with the knowledge, they simply need the tools (yes - calculators) to help them apply it.

Your help will ensure that this program gets off to a successful start. Our students will learn skills that will empower them to make informed financial decisions in the years to come. As mentioned, many of our students are the first ones in their families to accomplish many tasks - graduate high school, go to college (and find funding for it), obtain insurance and contribute to a retirement plan. Hopefully, they will leave this class as 'teachers' themselves, and help their families become more financially savvy.
