This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Living Environment to 9th graders. My ethnically diverse students are on the lower rung of the socio-economic ladder. Many of my students receive special education services.
Presently we have an inadequate supply of calculators. This negatively impacts the students ability to compute scientific problems. There is a dire need for calculators at the Regents Examinations.
Students will be taught how to use calculators. They will become proficient when using calculators. Calculators will allow my students to successfully compute scientific problems.
The project will come to life when students master the skill of using the calculator, and become better poised to face the challenges of the 21st century. My students will be better prepared for college because at least one aspect of the technology divide will be eliminated. They will approach a calculator and scientific problems with a sense of confidence. They will have one less challenge to face.
