My students need eight TI-83 scientific calculators to help with complex chemistry calculations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your high school chemistry class? Do the following topics ring a bell? Scientific notation, Significant Figures, Dimensional Analysis, Stoichiometry and Gas Laws...well my "chemists" need to master these concepts and need your help!
My students attend a charter high school located in Texas which is part of a national charter school network called KIPP.
Many of our students will become first generation high school and/or college graduates. Just like the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child," the staff and parents provide tremendous support in which the students will gain the necessary tools that will allow them to go to and through college. We have very high expectations for our students in that they attend school M-F 7:30am-5:00pm and 8:00am-1:00pm 1 Saturday a month. My students are in their second year of high school and many have aspirations to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.
My Project
My students are experiencing the joys and pains of chemistry. This is a challenging course that requires them to use algebraic concepts to solve scientific problems. Currently, my class is equipped with 25 4-function calculators. These 4-function calculators will eventually be of no use due to the complexity of math that is in the near future.
Your donation of eight TI-83 scientific calculators will help alleviate future frustration in my students. I do not ever want them to stop enjoying the thrills of chemistry because of the lack of an appropriate tool that can help in labs, classwork and homework. Your donation will also allow me to teach my students how to correctly use a scientific calculator; in that teaching them that a TI-83 is not going to solve a problem for them (like magic) but, it is a tool that makes the math a bit easier.
I am an advocate for STEM education.
Your donation will help me in my continual process of building confidence in science. A little belief in my project today will help increase the percentage of minorities pursuing future STEM careers. One seed planted today will eventually birth a forest. So plant your seed today!
