My students need a class set of 12 scientific calculators and an updated periodic table.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Collins's classroom raised $218
This project is fully funded
I teach high school science in an inner city school. We do not have a budget to buy even basic supplies for out classes. This year I have taken on a team-teaching class of junior chemistry students. We strive to help our students achieve and prepare for college.
My students are challenged with the science curriculum everyday. In chemistry, we have just started the math section of chemistry, which will last the rest of the school year. I have seen students who argue, sleep, and not complete work volunteering to do the problems on the board. Some students are getting the hang of the math, and even helping other students who are struggling. However, we only have a handful of working scientific calculators for a class of 20 students. Not everyone can have a calculator to work out the problem, and some get frustrated.
A class set of 12 scientific calculators will greatly enhance the chemistry class. With a full set, each student can work independently and work out every problem. I think this would also help some of the students to achieve more as they will work out the problems for themselves.
To help with math, stoichiometry, molar mass, and percent composition, we also need an updated periodic table to hang in the classroom.
These supplies will help my students grasp the concepts and work out the math problems in chemistry. This will greatly help them in preparing for college-level science classes. Even the most basic chemistry classes have math in college. With exposure to the material beforehand, my students will be a step ahead.
Your donation will enhance my chemistry class. My students will continue to grow and learn the material, as they will each have their own calculator and opportunity to work out each problem. You will be preparing my students for college chemistry. Thank you for supporting science education in public schools!
