My classroom is a diverse and vibrant community of learners who practice compassion, perseverance, and celebrate success on a daily basis. We are a classroom of growth mindset, and we work hard to support each other. As a teacher, I desire to help my students become proficient and excel in all academic areas. However, I believe that being a good friend and citizen, showing compassion, and working hard and doing your personal best are the life skills that will never be forgotten, and used every day.
My Project
I need to attend a Reading Conference to increase/enhance students' learning.
I have 17 first graders, many that come from low-income families.
My students welcome me every day with “I love you’s” and great big hugs! They are currently working on growth-mindset and practicing positive self talk, they have learned to say, "I’m not there yet, but with hard work, I can get there."
A significant portion of my classroom is scoring in intensive levels in math and reading.
I am always looking for ways of keeping all students engaged in the learning environment.
Many of my students are from low-income families and are at a greater risk of not becoming proficient in reading. The Daily 5 Structures and CAFE model will provide me with effective strategies to increase reading strategies, fluency, and comprehension.
Lastly, students will become more engaged in reading and math through independent learning activities. CAFE increases strategies and growth in reading through structures in Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary. Daily Math 3 will provide a structure to increase math computation and academic vocabulary.
More than half of students from low‑income households
