My Students
Help our Cadets learn more about military tradition! The military saber is still used during military weddings and other ceremonial events. Army JROTC Cadets need sabers to perform ceremonial activities during homecoming and other school events.
The Army JROTC Cadets of Nanakuli High School are loyal, patriotic students who desire to become better citizens.
They understand that citizenship is more than just excelling in the classroom. They understand that community service and pride in their school and organization prepare them for lives after high school in whatever career field they choose to pursue. While using ceremonial sabers is not a prerequisite for most jobs, cadets can be more prepared than their peers by understanding the importance of tradition and by implementing the leadership skills they learn in the classroom during special events.
My Project
Students will learn how to use sabers in ceremonial settings (e.g. Homecoming Saber Arch ceremony, school parades and assemblies, etc.) to improve their understanding of the history and tradition of military sabers. They will also use them to command and control their subordinate cadets during times when verbal commands are inappropriate (e.g. somber occasions, noisy events, etc.). The sabers will also be used during competitive drill ceremonies in which drill commands may be given silently. All these events improve the confidence and morale of the cadets, while also reinforcing leadership skills they learn in the classroom.
Our cadets learn the importance of military customs and traditions, but without sabers, they do not have the opportunity to exercise these traditions.
The saber project will make a difference in our cadets' lives by allowing them to demonstrate to the whole community the skills they learn in the classroom.
