CA Basketball!

Help me give my students the chance to practice in a gym that will allow them to succeed now and in the future.

My Students

My student-athletes are from all over the city of Columbus, Ohio. Of our 20 athletes that were on our team last year, we were a mix of different ethnicity and religion. Our kids worked hard in the classroom to improve their grades during our season, they worked hard in helping our school with younger students by tutoring in reading and they looked out for each other all season by sharing rides and hanging out on the weekends to build a team relationship.

These kids begged for our school to have a basketball team for years and when we got a chance, they delivered on and off the court.

Last basketball season was one of the first opportunities for our athletes to prove to our school, community and themselves on how they could handle the pressures of being a student-athlete. We had athletes making the honor roll for the first time ever, athletes maintaining a high GPA as well as athletes accomplishing their goals on the court. These kids have goals they aim to accomplish and they will not stop until they succeed.

My Project

This project is meant to give these kids a chance to enjoy their basketball season and a chance to succeed on the court this season. Our gym at our school is a multi-purpose room that functions as before school care, breakfast, physical education, lunch, assembly, band rehearsal, after-school care and auditorium. We have two hoops that are attached on the sides of the gym on and not coordinating with the painted lines.

Our area was never meant to be a basketball court and the chance to practice somewhere else will truly make the season more enjoyable for our team.

We hope to find a better solution in the future but we want to make sure this group of kids has a chance to truly succeed this season.
