Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Would you want your Kindergarten child to sit on the cold tile floor or on a clean carpet with an individual square for each child?
I am privileged to teach Kindergarten students.
They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low income households. All the students at the school receive free lunch and also qualify for free after school programs. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom.
My Project
Without a nice, clean, welcoming carpet in a Kindergarten class the room just looks incomplete. We are requesting a carpet with lots of big, bold squares in 5 vibrant colors that will provide plenty of seating options for the whole class! The carpet has extra-roomy squares that give each child lots of space to sit and play and the color-coded rows make it easy to divide the class into small groups. Students will benefit from a comfortable carpet as a point of reference in the room, a place to learn, a place to share, a place to read, a place to play, and a place that is theirs.
The carpet is where we will start our day and welcome everyone to school. We will review the calendar and sing and dance. We will read thousands of books on our carpet and share stories and experiences with friends. We will soak in all of the knowledge and skills we possibly can while we join together on the carpet!
Help make learning inviting and comfortable for our whole class by donating to this project!
Because "Meet me on the carpet" sounds so much better than "Meet me on the hard tile over there"!
