Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning in homeroom, my students get the opportunity to read a book of their own choosing. It is quiet in the room, so they are able to focus and get lost in the story. For these few precious moments, my students can pretend, hope, and dream along with the characters of the books they read.

My students primarily are from low-income (at the poverty level) and minority families.

My students' reading skills are below grade-level, but these books will help my students improve their reading skills, including increasing their vocabulary knowledge.

My Project

My students will have the chance to read these high-interest books if donated by DonorsChoose. Having a classroom library will make it easier for the students to access the books. After the students finish reading the books, they will take an on-line quiz based on the book and write a summary of the book.

Many of my students don't have the opportunity to visit the public library to check out books.

Furthermore, some of their favorites, such as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, may not be available in our school library. Therefore, the books I have ordered will be added to my classroom library so my students can check out these books whenever they like.
