My Project

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, my students were forced to quickly learn how to use various forms of technology. This provided me with a window into the disparity of some of our students' experiences with computers and computer science. The field of computer science is rapidly becoming an area that is of great importance in education. Though students have adapted quickly to technology, the pandemic showed that there is a difference between computer literacy and actual computer science learning. My students showed an ability to quickly learn how to manuever through programs and learning platforms, but I definitely see the challenges they face when needing to "create" programs and code outcomes in their computer science lessons. The purchase of the Micro:Bit kits will assist the students in meeting the new expectations they are facing as computer science becomes an integral part of not only their education, but of their daily lives. I also want to have students be able to use an iPad for the coding, so an Apple pen would be helpful to use with the App. These kits will challenge the students to "create" programs that can be connected to larger science and STEM projects.
